Although Board Certification from the American Board of
Medical Specialties (ABMS) is critical, a new measurement of competency known as Maintenance of Certification (MOC) now
exists. It is very important that your physician participate with this program, as it documents he or she
is committed to lifelong learning and competency.
Although many
plastic surgeons are indeed board certified, they might possess only lifetime certificates; which ironically require
no further maintainance whatsoever.
However, many dedicated plastic surgeons (including
Dr Zbar) are now doing MOC. Every three years, these surgeons document continuing education and are subject to rigorous
testing; thus maintaining their skills in the field.
