Options for breast reconstruction can seem overwhelming; but this is truly not the case.

Reconstructive options are divided into two types: autologous (natural tissue from the patient) or implantation (prosthetic).

Versions of autologous reconstruction include flaps of tissue (TRAM, latissimus dorsi) which can be from parts of the body which are nearby (pedicled) or distant (free tissue transfer).

Prosthetic reconstructions can be with saline or silicone implants.  Implant reconstruction sometimes requires tissue expansion before permanent implants are placed.

Any of these options can be performed either immediately following mastectomy or afterwards.

Dr Ross Zbar is an expert in many of these techniques.

Please make an appointment to review photographs and see which option is best for you.
